A New Day

As I opened my Youversion app this morning, I looked into the mirror and saw a familiar face. If used properly, the word of God is a mirror that allows us to see ourselves and to reflect.

Today’s verse —From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the name of the Lord will be praised (KJV)—transported me back in time to a prayer circle where I first heard this Psalm.

There was a woman whose prayers always included Psalm 113:3. It must’ve been her anchor. It pairs nicely with 1 Thessalonians 5:17, which prompts us to pray without ceasing. Each time I see or hear these two verses, I’m prompted to pray for that woman and my dad.

My dad’s birthday is May 17th, so I searched each book of the Bible for a fitting 5:17 verse to attach to his birthday so I could remember both.

I haven’t done this for everyone I love just yet, but I plan to. You might be wondering whether this is something you could do—whether it’s worth your time—whether it really even matters. Well, here’s the deal: getting into a practice of looking into the mirror for truth is a good practice. The more you look and study, the clearer your reflection. Also, it matters to God when we immerse ourselves in his word—watch the scales fall from your eyes as you come face-to-face with living water.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. Choose what is better. Seek God while he can be found. From east to west and from dawn to dusk, chase after him and praise his holy name. Blessings, y’all!

  1. Michelle. I don’t know which I loved more, your post or your bio. I love the idea of attaching a birthday to verse to anchoring them.

    1. Thanks so much! God is just showing me creative ways to continually look in the mirror of his word. Imagine looking at your calendar or your Facebook page in search of birthdays. Imagine praying a special signature prayer for that person. I believe God would love that.

  2. Amen sister! I remember when looking to the Word was frustrating and condemning BUT PRAISE GOD He has changed all of that! He has revealed His True self so that now I love looking into His reflection of Love to diacover more of Who He is and who I am in Him! 💕

  3. The awesome thing about God’s mirror is that it’s never deceiving. Putting a particular person in our view to either bless or pray for is ministry. There are so many hurting people, especially during this pandemic. God’s view gives us clear vision. Thanks Michelle for this beautiful post!

  4. Read the same YouVersion passage and loved the depth of its meaning. Thanks for opening up the word to us!🙋🏽‍♀️🧡

  5. What a fun idea that’s taking me on a journey through scripture today. My Bday is 4/20, and Matthew 4:20 is “At once they left their nets and followed him.” 💜

    1. Oh, I love that, Heidi! Today is a dear friend’s birthday, so I chose Hosea 2:15. I prayed that this new season becomes a door of hope. Each door he enters will have been transformed into a door of hope because of God’s covenant with him.

  6. Such a blessing to read and identify with the words spoken– A New Day! For whatever reason, I was looking for more to read…. Then I realized that I must write the conclusion of the whole matter… A needed to do reflections….Beyond today’s readings…Principle Michelle, your purpose accomplished with me……A New Day!

  7. Michelle, this is awesome. I’m going to do this for the people in my life. I feel like that would be such a unique gift to include in a handwritten card. This verse makes me think of the song Promises by Maverick City. 💛
