The First Step

Today is the day that we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. Please join me in honoring him by sharing his words of wisdom in the comments. He shared his life with us and left an indelible mark on our hearts and in our minds. I’m reminded today to continue taking steps toward my destiny — even if they’re baby steps.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.  ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

What is it that you’re afraid to pursue or you’re waiting for the right time to start? We find so many excuses to delay our efforts. How about brainstorming reasons why you should start that project today. Give yourself 60 seconds to think of all the reasons why you should do what’s been on your heart and in your mind for as long as you can remember.  Then, think about this: Someone has literally been praying for that dream of yours to come to fruition because they need it in order to reach their destiny.

Whether we want to believe it or not, other people’s dreams are lying dormant while they wait on you to do what you are supposed to do. We all are dependent on each other. What I do in this season will provide inspiration for someone else’s dream. If you frame it in that way, it might be a bit easier to take the next step — even if it is a baby step.

My prayer for you today is that you will take the first step toward your destiny today. It’s not necessary to see the whole picture. Have faith, and trust that God knows exactly where those stairs lead. He’s right there with you — to your left and your right, above and below, and most importantly, he’s in you. May blessings abound!

  1. Oh my goodness. This message really resonates with me, Michelle. My biggest fear is NOT dying but dying before I’ve had the chance to leave MY indelible mark upon the world. I know that my dream has been created to be the solution to someone’s problem. I just get lost sometimes in the “process stage” where it seems like nothing really meaningful is happening– or is ever going to happen.

…Asking Him for clarity,…even as I seek to take that next (baby) step.

  2. There are so many favorite quotes of Dr. King from which to choose. This year I went with: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” ~Martin Luther King Jr.
