Sunrise Sermon: Set It & Forget It

Many of us are stuck in a rut or resigned to our routines. Doing something different or out of the ordinary might sound risky or uncivilized. To some, it may even seem silly to change something that you’ve always done if it’s working. Why fix something that isn’t broken, right? Well, who says it isn’t broken?

We’ve all heard the saying If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you will keep getting what you’ve always gotten. Until today, perhaps what you’ve gotten has been pretty good, but wouldn’t you like to see what else God has in store for you?

I remember being in my late 20s and early 30s, and I was in this weird cycle of praying and then worrying — praying for God’s blessings and then worrying about whether it would actually happen. That’s as pointless as deciding to take a long, luxurious bath, but just a few seconds into running the water, you unplug the tub. The water is running, and you’ve poured in the bath salts, but the tub will never fill up. It’s the same way with prayer. Worry is the stopper in this scenario — literally and figuratively.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:6-7

What I learned to do differently was Set It & Forget It! Yes, that saying comes from an infomercial, but it works with prayer too — or at least it works for me. When I learned to talk to God without trying to fluff up my prayers and had enough faith to believe that he was listening and the expectation that he would show up, everything changed. I no longer worry about the next promotion or increase of any kind. Only God has the power to appoint and promote, and when he opens doors, no man (or woman) can close them. All their efforts will be for nought. If they set a trap for you, they’ll fall right into it themselves. Don’t be shy. Tell God your dreams, and wait on him to fulfill them. Stop walking around feeling empty; go to the only one who can fill that void.

As always, I encourage you to get to him for yourself. There’s no better time than right now to say I’m ready, Lord. He’s waiting on you, and the angels are ready to rejoice!

May blessings abound! <3

  1. What a marvelous message! Thank you. I felt a miracle was coming after looking at the photo in the heading. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a fish in the sky.

      1. I’m great, thank you. We had Sunday School, church, sushi for lunch, and I talked to our daughter in Denmark for three or four hours. She’s been traveling a lot (Israel and Portugal), and we hadn’t talked for weeks. I hope you had a marvelous Sunday, too.

        1. Sounds like you had an amazing day. Mine was equally beautiful — a great message at church and a nice lunch with my husband. Life is good. <3
