Are You Like David?

Good Monday morning, friends! I trust that your weekend was amazing! Welcome back to The Malone Zone — a soft place to land, fertile ground to sow seeds of love, and a banquet table filled with spiritual food to sustain you for the week. It is my hope that you visit often, share your experiences, and be a blessing to all who gather here to fellowship.

This past Saturday, the Women’s Ministry at my church launched our annual bible study entitled Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed. It’s an intense study of King David — a simple shepherd boy who was handpicked by God.

“After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’” ~Acts 13:22 (NIV)

I remember reading about young David with my Bible In a Year girlfriends. I recall that David was the least of Jesse’s boys — small in stature with a ruddy complexion. He was different from his brothers, and he probably knew it. Like David, we sometimes look in the mirror and see someone who isn’t all that impressive. Other times you might look in that same mirror and see a King or Queen. No matter who you see, know who you are and whose you are. YOU are a child of the Most High God!

If David knew nothing else, he was assured that he was established by God as a teen — probably the most tumultuous time in anyone’s life. As if puberty were not enough, God chose to anoint young David during this time of flux. Imagine how empowered he may have felt in that moment to be anointed with oil by the Prophet Samuel before his father and brothers. He is described as a man after God’s own heart. What a powerful definition! Ask yourself: are you like David — a man or woman after God’s own heart?

We all need to be reminded at times that we are here for a reason — handpicked by God to be his hands and feet. The negative self talk in our heads and from our haters should not define us. Think about how God sees you. Have you ever thought about that? If not, spend some time reflecting on your gifts, your calling, and your achievements. He created you; surely he thinks you’re to die for.

Before you leave today, take a few minutes to listen to my Music Monday selection by Casting Crowns entitled “Voice of Truth”.

  1. What an inspiration. Great reminder to have a David approach when dealing with Goliath sized challenges. Looking forward to Mondays posy.
