I sometimes wonder what I would do if I had a little more time. By the time I get home most days, all I have time to do is complete a few chores, prepare dinner, and wait for my husband to get home. I used to get home earlier, so I’d click on the TV, and watch Y&R or one the many talk shows, but I don’t get to watch TV much these days. I DVR lots of things so that I can watch some of my faves whenever I have a little free time. One of my favorite shows to watch is Family Feud. For some reason, I have always loved it — from the time Richard Dawson hosted it until now with Steve Harvey at the helm. I never wanted to be on the show though; Richard was far too flirtatious, and Steve Harvey might crack a joke on me on national TV, and “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”
Something I’ve always wondered is who are those people they’re surveying for this show? I don’t think I would stop to answer a question on the street if someone posed one — though I have been in a position to ask such questions as a young journalist years ago. I realized quickly that I was not cut out for that job or the lifestyle. I even worked in radio for a short while before I figured out what I was truly destined to do for the rest of my time here on Earth.
So many singers have even written songs about time: Jim Croce’s “Time in a Bottle,” Chicago’s “Does Anybody Know What Time It Is,” Foreigner’s “Feels Like the First Time,” Foo Fighter’s “Times Like These,” and Mary J. Blige’s “25/8.” It just makes me believe that everybody feels as though they would be more efficient or effective if they had just a little more time.
Though I’m guilty of saying the same thing from time to time, I truly believe that we have all the time that we need. We just need to spend it wisely. Don’t squander it on things that don’t last, and prioritize your tasks so that you can enjoy those things and people who matter most like family, friends, hobbies, and God.
I challenge you all to assess your lives and time management skills. Figure out what your time drains are, and eliminate them. You’ll be surprised how much free time you actually have. Let me know how you plan to spend that surplus.
